Reboot

Readers may have noticed that I've been away for a while. In truth I was only away for a little over a week, but since getting home a couple of weeks ago I've been unable to bring myself to paint. Not quite sure what the problem is but I think it's partially due to a semi-disastrous spray job on my latest miniature. I tried a white undercoat and got the dust problem. I've decided I'll strip and restart but that means getting some new pieces to replace the ones that will be probably damaged in the process (hands, spear head etc). In the meantime I've decided to start something fresh. The familiar should be a good place to start, it won't take to long to paint. I'm also going to try a white undercoat on this miniature too. Any regular readers wondering about the sniper, well that one seems to be cursed. Built it ages ago, took it apart, rebuilt in a new pose, and now it sits half painted. I'll get back to it eventually, but I'll be doing an Arcoflag before I return to the sniper (Judge Dredd artist John Hicklenton died while I was away and since, iirc, the arco owes so much to his vision of Mean Machine I feel that it's only fitting).

  1. Good to see you back mate, I did wonder where you'd disappeared to.

I know how it feels to get "painters block"... :)

  2. Yup had a nasty case of it to be sure, decided to nip it in the bud before it spirals into one of those year-long varieties >.<

Thanks for the encouragement Andy, it's very much appreciated :)

  3. Welcome back... I find painting is a very cyclical thing for me, sometimes I'm into it, sometimes I'm not. Eventually it'll come around again though.

That's a nifty looking model you've got there. Mind telling us where you got it?

  4. Yes, I'm very glad to see you back too, Ferran! I had wondered where you'd gone and I'm very keen to see your alien finally completed. The Familiar is a nice model, too, and seeing him completed would be awesome. Basically, I guess I'm saying that any progress would be awesome!

  5. Yup I agree about the cyclical thing. I have gone years without painting, some periods where I put all my stuff away but some others where I still had all my stuff laid out on a desk like some scene from the Mary Rose. The model is one of my all time favourites, the =][= familiar from specialist games (oop)

Thanks Molotov. Good news and bad news - I started painting the familiar on the weekend and progress was quick with a white base, I hope to complete him on my day off tomorrow. Bad news is that the alien warrior was the model that got a dusty undercoat. I tried to paint through but my heart wasn't in it. Stripping shouldn't be a problem but I've decided to put him at the back of the list for this warband, so the new schedule is Familiar, Arco, Sororitas, Alien.
